To the sounds of castanets, bass drum, Brazilian ukulele, and accordions, the audience watches the interpretations of Maria da Fonte to typical Portuguese rhythms in Viana do Castelo at the 2019’s Festival of Our Lady of Sorrow.
The Maria da Fonte Folkloric group from Casa do Minho in Rio de Janeiro is one of the most traditional Portuguese folklore groups in Brazil. Created in 1954, it has performed all over Brazil and Portugal including renowned national and international festivals. The group represents one of the most privileged Portuguese regions in terms of culture: the Minho.
Minho is the Northern region of Portugal where Nature, Food, and Wine are good allies; it’s a multicultural region where the most colorful costumes of Portuguese folklore can be found.
