Around 6,000 years ago, Something special happened.

No, this wasn’t when I started photographing horses but, it was around this time in human history that the horse became domesticated. The horse’s origins trace back to the grasslands of the Eurasian Steppe, north of the Black and Caspian Seas, and was the birthplace of a revolutionary relationship. It was here that mankind ‘harnessed’ the horse for its power, speed, and the ‘status’ it brought its owner. And, for its friendship.

A bond like no other was born between horses and humans

The horse’s purpose evolved quickly in the life of man. It became integral in agriculture, herding, transportation, and warfare. It helped progressed communication, trade, commerce while also being used for pleasure, sport, competition, and recreation. Its grace, power, and prestige made it a status symbol and worthy gift. This is to say nothing about its significant role in the transfer of culture, language, and technology as a result of the increased mobility the horse offered to mankind.
